Sustainable development in the global public discourse is often exemplified in terms of environmental, economic and social dimensions. To attain the goals of sustainable development an integrated approach is required consisting of ESG framework, corporate governance, and sustainable reporting. Concerns over climate change, clean air and water, renewable energy and land use continue to draw attention to sustainability, particularly sustainable urban planning. Sustainable development requires disruptive changes in the way our societies and businesses are organized. Hence, there is a need of circular economy in society which aims to redefine growth, focusing on positive society-wide benefits as it is based on the principles of design out waste and pollution, keep products and materials in use and regenerate natural systems. The effects can be seen on the global tourism and hospitality. The focus of the economies must be on the policies which should encourage entrepreneurial ecosystem for innovation in development of environmental management system.

A large number of developing coastal and island nations depend on tourism and fisheries for a significant part of their gross domestic product and public revenues. Thus, the concept of blue economy is coined and need for policies for sustainable development are purposed as the potential to grow the blue economy is limited by a series of challenges. The challenges can be overcome by educating the people about sustainable development. As higher education institutions (HEIs) have a fundamental role in transforming societies aimed at a more sustainable future. This can be done through creation and dissemination of knowledge, research, education and outreach, institutions of higher education lead the path towards sustainable development.

The focus of the 5th International Conference on “Sustainable Development: Roadmap to an Equitable Planet” is to identify multiple ways to capitalize and manage these changes experienced across the world. The conference intends to build on the importance of interdisciplinary research and knowledge sharing in academia and industry as the bedrock of sustainable development, by approaching it from an academic and industry perspective. The conference is unique in the sense that it covers a wide range of topics related to sustainable development and will bring a global conversation to India, which is critical in today's turbulent business environment. This conference will also help in understanding the green management tools and processes.

The conference aims to bring together leading researchers, academicians and industry practitioners to a common platform for exchange of ideas. It is envisioned that the conference participants will be able to substantially gain in terms of their understanding on various facets of sustainability formalized as the themes of the conference. The Conference is rooted in the belief that there is a need for deliberation on management's role in improving or harming our world. The conference will highlight the various problems that are presently being faced by disparate social and economic entities globally, and suggest solutions that ensure sustainable development for an Equitable Planet. This will assist in achieving the SDGs in accordance with the 2030 Agenda of the UN. It is also expected that it would serve as an interdisciplinary platform for stakeholders to present, discuss and deliberate on the recent trends as well as the possible solutions to counter the emerging threats to sustainability. The accepted research papers of the conference will be sent for the review to International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education, Social Responsibility Journal, International Journal of Management Practice and FIIB Business Review. Some papers will also be sent for review in special issues of Journal of Sustainability and Climate Change and GD Goenka Business Review. The conference proceedings will also be published in a book with ISBN Number.
