National Science Day GD Goenka University, Gurugram, Haryana 28 February 2022 (Monday), 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

National Science Day was organized by School of Engineering and Sciences, GD Goenka University, Gurugram in hybrid mode, nearly 250 participants attended the event. The celebration started with the Welcome Address by the Convener and Head of the School of Engineering & Sciences, Prof. (Dr.) Naresh Sharma. Prof. Sharma welcomed all the participants and discussed about the significance of science and technology. Guest of Honour, Dr. Rajan S. Bawa, Chief Scientific Officer and Institutional Officer, CARE Institute, Colorado, USA also graced the event. Prof. (Dr.) Rohit Dutt, Dean Academics also addressed the audience with his words of wisdom. The theme of the event was ‘Integrated Approach in Science & Technology for Sustainable Future’.

The first speaker of the day was Dr. Aldon Fernandes, Vice President, R&D Biologicals, Bharat Serums and Vaccines Ltd., Mumbai. He gave a talk on ‘Learnings from Covid 19 pandemic: preparing for a sustainable future’ where he discussed about the various learnings of the Covid 19 pandemic and the science involved in the development of different types of vaccines. The second speaker of the day was Dr. Amita Das, Professor in Physics Department at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD), New Delhi. Prof. Das talked about the ‘Role of plasma based technologies for sustainable future’. The various types of plasma based technologies and processes were discussed in detail.

As a part of the National Science Day Celebration, Poster Making Competition and Speech Contest based on the theme were also held. The event concluded with the Valedictory session. Honey Modi, B. Archana, Manisha Sharma, Anjali Singh and Diksha were the winners of the Poster Making Competition held as a part of the National Science Day event. V. Venkata Sri Harsha, Himanshi and Honey Modi were the winners of the Speech Contest. Science has benefitted society since time immemorial and will continue to do so; not only that science is also behind different performing arts like music and dance which boosts up physical and mental well-being and in tune with that few cultural performances were staged by the students.

National Science Day ended with the presentation of Vote of Thanks by Dr. Anindita Roy Chowdhury with special thanks to Dr. Sunita Negi and Dr. Prerna Sharma as organizing committee members. To summarize, the science day celebration was very useful as the participants got an insightful detail about the various aspects of sciences and their application for a sustainable future.
