Introduction:

Dr. Neha Chandel is an Associate Professor and Head, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, School of Healthcare & Allied Sciences, GD Goenka University since 2018.

Neha Chandel has a specialization in the area of Medical microbiology and molecular biology with a background in Biotechnology and Medical Laboratory technology. She has taught the UG, PG and PhD students at universities such as GD Goenka University (India) and Jaypee University of Information Technology. Dr. Chandel has served as Examiner for various State Universities.

She has a research experience of 6 years. She has completed her Ph.D. at CSIR – Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), Chandigarh, and awarded degree by Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. During her Ph.D. tenure she was awarded with UGC – Research fellowship to pursue her degree. She has qualified CSIR- UGC NET, GATE in Life Sciences (in year 2010) and Biotechnology (in year 2011). She has done her M.Sc. (Biotechnology) from Department of Biotechnology, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla and was awarded DBT – studentship during her tenure. She has done her graduation in Medical Laboratory Technology from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla.

Neha Chandel has worked to understand and characterize the wide arsenal of chromosomal and plasmid borne resistance determinants in Enterobacteriaceae, with special emphasis on E. coli causing Urinary Tract infections and prevalent Indian scenario. The study was further undertaken to establish the role of environmental selective pressures, like metals in promoting antimicrobial resistance and also understand their role in promoting Horizontal Gene Transfer of resistance genes present in environment from commensal and environment bacteria.

Neha Chandel’s current research interests are research interest lies in understanding the mechanism of antibiotic resistance among nosocomial pathogens, using bioinformatics approach to understand genomic diversity among bacteria and isolation and characterization of enzymes.
