Seminar on “Data Science and Big Data Analytics”

The Department of Computer Science, School of Engineering (SoE), in collaboration with Aegis Schoolof Business, Data Science &Telecommunication, Mumbai, hosted a one-day seminar on “Data Science and Big Data Analytics” on 7th February, 2018. The seminar was attended by the faculty members as well as around 150 students of School of Engineering. These students were from different programs like M. Tech and B. Tech (CSE), BCA and BSc(IT). Aegis is the leading school in telecom management in India offeringprograms like Masters in Telecommunication Management (MPTM), Post Graduate Program in Data Science, Business Analytics and Big Data (in collaboration with IBM) etc.

The seminar started with definition and challenges in BIG DATA followed by the skillset required to solve these challenges, the job opportunities and the skill set that will be required for the next decade? The discussion also included areas and application solutions based on AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Predictive Analytics, Cyber Security, IBM Watson and Cognitive Computing. The speaker also discussed about various important tools like IBM Cognos, IBMInfosphere Big Insight, IBM Watson, Hadoop, Spark, R, Python, Microsoft Azure, AWS, SPSS, Tensor flow, and Blue Mix , which are availablein the market to perform data analysis.

The seminar also inlaid understanding of job & career opportunities in the discussed field and specified companies, hiring data scientists. It was an interactive session and a great platform where students openly shared their queries like, how could someone with no technical or coding background shift into analytics or the advantages of Machine Learning etc. They weregiven adequate understanding and felt motivated to enhance their learning and deep dive into the new concepts. An enriching session like this can take the aspirants to an all new level.
