Program Description

The B.Sc. Nursing degree program is a four-year full time program comprising eight semesters, which prepares B.Sc. nursing graduates qualified to practice nursing and midwifery in a variety of settings in either public/government or private healthcare settings. The program prepares nurses and midwives for generalist nursing including midwifery practice. Knowledge acquisition related to wellness, health promotion, illness, disease management and care of the dying is core to nursing practice. Mastery of competencies is the main focus. Students are provided with opportunities to learn a whole range of skills in addition to acquiring knowledge related to nursing practice (nursing and midwifery). This is achieved through learning in skill lab/simulated lab and clinical environment. 

The revised curriculum embraces competency-based and outcome-based approach throughout the program integrating mastery learning and self-directed learning. Transformational and relationship based educational approaches are emphasized. Through the educational process the students assimilate and synthesize knowledge, cultivate critical thinking skills and develop care strategies. Competencies that reflect practice standards of the Council address the areas of cultural diversity, communication technology, teamwork and collaboration, safety, quality, therapeutic interventions and evidence- based practice. They are prepared to provide safe and competent care to patients across life span and influence patient outcomes.

Program Outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide comprehensive, individually focused training that prepares the students for providing a quality nursing care to the patients so that at the end of the course he/she will be able to perform the following

PO1- Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.

PO2- Demonstrate understanding of life styles and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups.

PO3- Provide nursing care based on steps of nursing process in collaboration with individuals and groups.

PO4- Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.

PO5 - Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.

PO6- Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the National Health Policies and Programmes. 

PO7 - Practice within the frame work of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.

PO8 - Communicate effectively with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective inter personal relationship and team work.

PO9 - Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical and community health settings.

PO10 - Participate effectively as members of the health team in health care delivery system.

PO11 - Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical / community health settings. 

P012 - Conduct need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.

PO13- Demonstrate awareness, interest, and contribute towards advancement of self and of the profession.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

PSO1-Apply concepts & theories related to health promotion and Perform physical, psychosocial assessment of patients.

PSO2- Recognize and manage emergencies in patients and apply Nursing process in providing care to patients.

PSO3- Integrate the concept of family centered nursing care with associated disorder such as genetic, congenital and long-term illness

PSO4- Describe various recent technologies & treatment modalities in the management of critically ill patients and appreciate the role of alternative systems of Medicine in care of patients and those requiring rehabilitation.

PSO5-. Describe the epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology and diagnostic assessment of critically ill patients as per various body system.

PSO6-. Develop a broad understanding of Fundamental Principles, concepts, trends and issues related to education and nursing education. Further, it would provide opportunity to students to understand, appreciate and acquire skills in teaching and evaluation, curriculum development, implementation, maintenance of standards and accreditation of various nursing educational programs.

PSO7- Develop concepts and constructs of theoretical basis of advance nursing practice and critically analyze different theories of nursing and other disciplines.

PSO8- Acquire an understanding of the research methodology and statistical methods as a basis for identifying research problem, planning and implementing a research plan. It will further enable the students to evaluate research studies and utilize research findings to improve quality of nursing practice, education and management.

PSO9- Develop a broad understanding of Principles, concepts, trends and issues related to nursing management. Further, it would provide opportunity to students to understand, appreciate and acquire skills in planning, supervision and management of nursing services at different levels to provide quality nursing services.

  • Clinical Nursing

Staff Nurse: Work in hospitals, clinics, or healthcare centres, providing patient care.

Specialized Nursing: After gaining experience, one can specialize in fields like paediatric, oncology, ICU, emergency, or surgical nursing.

Nurse Practitioner: In some countries, we can work as a nurse practitioner, diagnosing and treating conditions within certain limits.

Health Content Writer: Create health-related content for medical journals, blogs, websites, or other health-related platforms.

Medical Transcription: Transcribe medical records or assist in preparing clinical documentation.

Admission Requirement

  1. The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on 31st December of the year in which admission is sought. The maximum age limit for admission shall be 35 years.

Minimum Educational Qualification

  1. Candidate with Science who have passed the qualifying 12th Standard examination (10+2) and must have obtained a minimum of 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together and passed in English individually.
  2. Candidates are also eligible from State Open School recognized by State Government and National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by Central Government having Science subjects and English only.
  3. English is a compulsory subject in 10+2 for being eligible for admission to B.Sc. (Nursing).
  1. Colour blind candidates are eligible provided that colour corrective contact lens and spectacles are worn by such candidates.
  2. Candidate shall be medically fit.
  3. Married candidates are also eligible for admission.
  4. Students shall be admitted once in a year.
  5. Selection of candidates will be based on the merit of the entrance examination. Entrance test** shall comprise of:
  1. Aptitude for Nursing  20 marks
  2. Physics            20 marks
  3. Chemistry       20 marks
  4. Biology           20 marks 
  5. English            20 marks

inimum qualifying marks for entrance test shall be 50% marks.

**Entrance test shall be conducted by University.
