Past Research:
Dr. Deepak Maurya worked on topic research entitled “Breeding tomatoes for quality with disease
resistance alleles” under the supervision of Dr. Shirin Akhtar during Ph.D. Programme. Morpho-
biochemical variability of twenty diverse tomato genotypes was studied and few genotypes were
identified that produced high yield and good quality. Characters for high yielding good quality tomato were also defined based on these genotypes and twenty traits. Disease resistance alleles in these twenty genotypes were identified by molecular markers. Plant hybridization for stacking resistance genes was done and one bi-parental and one four-parental population were developed. Lines carrying Ty-3, Mi1.2 and Ph-3 resistance alleles in homozygous condition have been identified through marker assisted selection. Besides, molecular marker assisted for selection of mutant alleles governing fruit colour and shape (Psy1, CrtISO and Ovate) has also been done. While M.Sc. programme Dr. Deepak Maurya worked on topic entitled“Genetic improvement by effective selection based on certain genetic parameters for metric traits in bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.)” under supervision of Dr. V.B. Singh.
