1. Statistical Inference for Basic Sciences: Why and How?- May 12, 2020
Statistics is the science of learning from data. It is undoubtedly among the most important tools for researchers in different fields. Keeping in mind its importance, the subject is taught at UG and PG level in various domains of Science. The current talk is aimed at students to introduce some of the important features of Statistics with special focus on the inferential aspect.
About the Resource Person:
Dr. Shashikant Gupta obtained his PhD from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, under Joint Astronomy Program. Having around fifteen years of teaching and research experience, he is currently working as Associate Professor at School of Basic and Applied Sciences, GD Goenka University. His research interests include Astrophysics, Cosmology and application of Machine Learning in Astronomy. Currently, he is working on modeling and simulation of Type Ia Supernova explosion.

2. Biological and Environmental Implications on COVID-19 Outbreak – May 16, 2020
COVID-19 outbreak has changed human life. We have switched over to better hygienic practices, physical distancing and wearing masks so as to protect ourselves and those surrounding us. On the other side, we have also entered into a situation where there is a wastage of water, pollution of water bodies, several health and
environmental problems related to improper disposal of masks & PPE apart from psychological distress and anxiety. The current talk is aimed at introducing the students with scientific rationale behind advisories issued by health agencies to prevent coronavirus infection and their impacts on human biology and environment.
About the Resource Person:
Dr. Priyanka Tyagi did her PhD from Institute of Nuclear medicine & Allied Sciences, DRDO and post-doctoral research work as Project Scientist at Centre for Biomedical Engineering at IIT- Delhi. Having around nine years of teaching and research experience, she is currently working as Assistant Professor at School of Basic and Applied Sciences, GD Goenka University, Gurugram. Her research areas include development of polymer based drug delivery systems and heavy metal decorporation.

About the Resource Person:
Sonika Sethi holds a PhD from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, Uttrakhand and M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) from Delhi University. She ranked first across Delhi University, though out her undergraduate studies, and received the award by then CM of Delhi, Lt. Smt. Sheila Dikshit. Sonika was awarded the prestigious Science Meritorious Award, for five straight years at Delhi University. She is also JRF/NET and GATE qualified. She holds a total research and teaching experience of ~10 years. Sonika has published more than 20 research/review articles in SCI indexed journals.
