The Department of Biological Sciences organized an educational trip for the B.Sc. and M.Sc. students of Microbiology and Biochemistry programmes to Acharya Narendra Dev College (University of Delhi) on 22nd November’ 2019. The main aim of this trip was to enhance the student’s life long learning on molecular techniques in interdisciplinary environment and motivate them towards R&D.
During this educational trip, the students got exposure of different biological techniques in four research laboratories- Anti-mycobacterial Drug Discovery Laboratory, Microbial Technology Laboratory, Insect-Vector and Pest Laboratory and Ciliate Biology Laboratory. The students developed an understanding of collection, culture and maintenance of viruses, bacteria and protozoans. More importantly, students were exposed to the hands- on practice of basic and advanced molecular techniques such as DNA isolation, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Gel Electrophoresis. The students also interacted with different researchers of the labs and discussed several ideas and career prospects ahead.
