“Justice delayed is justice denied” It is a well known fact that legal systems across the globe and more significantly in India are overloaded with range of complex cases which bring enormous pressure on judiciary to dispose the cases in a stipulated time. For rapid disposal of cases it becomes imperative to have an understanding of scientific techniques and methods of analysing the physical evidence.
Forensic Science plays a vital role in supporting investigation at the time of collecting the evidence, preserving evidence and finally analysing the evidence to bring about a clear picture and thereby ensure rapid justice. Forensic science with its specialized approach upholds the law by providing scientific results and testimony about the findings with the court.
With the above backdrop we can understand the need for producing more and more professionals trained in the area of Forensic Science and the responsibility of ensuring this lies on the academic institutions.
GD Goenka University has started the curriculum in Forensic Science in 2016 with the aim to develop the skills necessary to take part in a forensic investigation by providing the experience of examining forensic evidence and case studies. The Department of Forensic Science offers various courses such as B.Sc. (H) Forensic Science, M.Sc. Forensic Science and Ph.D. Forensic Science. The course provides theoretical knowledge, practical skills and the application of broad areas of Biology, Chemistry, Anthropology, Medicine, Physics, Law, etc. in crime investigation.
To impart advance knowledge and skills, students are engaged in various major, minor and interdisciplinary projects. To facilitate their overall growth they visit various government and non-government Forensic Science laboratories, research and academic institutions. They are also encouraged to participate in National and International Seminars, Conferences, Symposium etc. The Department of Forensic Science is dedicated towards the overall development of students in particular and society in general.
